Mohamed scores to rescue point for Nantes against Nice

Mostafa Mohamed scored a late equaliser to secure FC Nantes a vital draw against Nice on Sunday afternoon.

The goal marks Mostafa Mohamed’s ninth in the season across 40 games and his sixth in 27 Ligue 1 appearances with Nantes.

Moreover, with his goal, Mohamed became the join-top goalscorer for FC Nantes alongside Ludovic Blas with nine goals to each; however, the Frenchman played more minutes.

But the Egyptian didn’t start from the beginning as FC Nantes hosted Nice in the 27th round of the Ligue 1 at the Beaujoire Stadium.

Just five minutes into the game, the hosts found themselves trailing as Terem Moffi headed in Ross Barkley’s corner to give Nice an early lead.

Former Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko equalised the scoreline in the 31st minute, four minutes before Ludovic Blas missed a penalty that would have fired Nantes upfront.

Searching for a goal, Mostafa Mohamed was brought on by manager Antoine Kombouaré for Moses Simon.

However, it was Nice who scored first in the 71st minute through Burundi international Youssouf Ndayishimiye to re-give his side the lead.

With the game slipping away, Nantes launched a dangerous attack which led to Brazilian right-back Joao Victor playing an inch-perfect cross to Mostafa Mohamed, whose header beat Kasper Schmeichel to make it 2-2.

The draw kept Nantes in 14th with 29 points, seven away from the relegation zone, while Nice remained seventh, just four points away from the European spots.
